One of the greatest challenges presented by teen pregnancy is a sense of separation from one’s peers. A pregnant teen who was once social, outgoing and into going out with friends who has decided to keep her baby is likely to withdraw as the pregnancy affects her energy level and she seems to have less in common with her peer group. This is a part of the reason why many teens who make the choice to keep their babies end up dropping out of school.

One of the biggest challenges about teen pregnancy is that is a cycle that often repeats itself. In my partner’s family, for example, the grandmother had two children when she was in her teens - a girl and a boy; the aunt had her first child when she was in her teens (again, a daughter before sons), whose daughter was also pregnant while very young - becoming a grandmother in her 30s.
